Set in Broni, south of Pavia city, is the Basilica of San Contardo, a huge Church designed by Bramante Architect.

The celebrations the saint, this year, were also a moment to celebrate the restored shrine of the saint.
REA oversaw the restoration of the altar in polychrome marble, a beautiful part of the multidisciplinary team that worked together, under the direction of architect Angela Ferraresi.

The altar consists of a large Neo-Classical structure, higher than ten meter, set on the right side of the presbytery of the Basilica. It presents a wide entablature in white Carrara marble supported by four round columns made of white Verona with Corinthian capitals, posed in front of a large niche. Above the entablature is placed a statue of San Contardo Pellegrino, also in Carrara marble.
The structure was built between 1825 and 1827 by Carlo Amati Architect, and crafted by an artisan named marmorino Buzzi. Restoration work involved the cleaning of all the marbles and the recovery of the gilding of metal parts, covered by dark glazes applied in recent times. The work was completed in the begining of 2016.
