In 1828 the Marquis Marcello Saporiti bought a sumptuous building to be donated to the town of Vigevano to make it a public schools' seat. The philanthropist commissioned an engineer named Rouger to rebuilt almost completely the original structure. Thus was born a boarding school, which was inaugurated in 1839.
In 1857, almost opposite to the first building, a new one was donated and inaugurated thanks to a new funding by the Marquis Apollinaris Rocca Saporiti. This second building would house the school and a detached faculty of the University of Genoa. The University and schools were abolished in 1859, while the Royal Grammar School survived. Afterwards, in 1884, the Civic High School was annexed to it.
Before the restoration, Palazzo Saporiti had several problems, thus REA has proposed and carried out several targeted measures, which have involved first of all pitched roofs and external walls. On the covering, we proceeded to remake the roof boarding and to create a new insulation layer, but also to replace and rearrange the original tiles, after their cleaning. Regarding the the facades, we have replaced the damaged plaster with natural hydraulic mortars and restored the internal fronts, both the ones facing the small courtyard and those which overlooking the big garden on the back.
